Abstract

An investigation into the effects of pruning on resin infiltration of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea showed pruning aggravated the problem but the no-pruning control was not without resin. Data are presented to show the extent of resin infiltration and the incidence of bark occlusions in the species. It is recommended that the severity of the pruning be increased to restrict the knotty core and associated resin infiltration to the minimum.
