A feminist reading of Nna Sajene Kokobela, C.I.D.

Abstract

Character portrayal in the Sesotho novel Nna Sajene Kokobela, C.I.D. shows that female and male characters are predominantly seen in terms of gender stereotypes of a male-dominated society. The author's apparent intention with the exaggerated images of female and male characters in the novel may be to challenge the cultural stereotypes of ‘a good Mosotho woman’. The author seems to sensitise the reader towards a need for a change in gender attitudes.
