Abstract

A semiotic study of O.K. Matsepe's Lešitaphiri renders an interesting, even unexpected understanding of the work. Pursuing the signs of literature in the text reveals the author's remarkable gift of constructing and transmitting his message. The interpretation of literary signs is strongly dependent on the genre to which the work belongs as well as the context out of which it grew and which it tries to address. Based on these aspects the investigation allows an absorbing contemporary interpretation of the novel, alluding to the survival of the South African nation in the current political situation.
