Abstract

In this article the role of the language practitioner is reviewed in the light of current developments in the South African context. The new situation demands revitalized efforts to cope with the changes in language policy. The language practitioner's role is discussed using the developments in language policy as guidelines since the language practitioner's role will be prescribed or determined by developments in this regard. In the article I focus both on academic teaching and translation services in a multilingual context.
