Abstract

Common duiker (Sylvicapra grimmia) and bushbuck (Tragelaphus scriptus) may have the greatest potential for management of any antelope in southern Africa. Both species are relatively common and their populations continue to flourish under conditions which have caused many species to decline and, in some cases, become extinct over much of their former range. Part of the success of bushbuck and duiker must be credited to their adaptability. Mentis (1973a,b) noted that both species are catholic in their habitat requirements and may be found in a variety of natural vegetation types as well as exotic timber plantations.
