Testimony of Children in the Criminal Justice Environment

Abstract

Child development and memory are of relevance to court testimony. There appears to be scant research pertaining to the competency of children as witnesses in criminal proceedings. However, there is concern in both the legal and psychological circles about the impact of the criminal justice system on child witnesses and victims. Interdisciplinary collaboration between the legal and socio-psychological domains is important to supporting the rights of children as witnesses.
