Abstract

This study was undertaken mainly to attempt to understand why Italian type plants of Lolium multiflorum Lam. (Italian ryegrass) fail to become vernalized in certain climatic regions of South Africa. The vernalization requirements of seed and plants for the induction of flowering and seed production were determined.
