Abstract

The article explores the uniqueness of Sesotho target text as the second origin. It also demonstrates that a Sesotho target text is independent in terms of syntactic structure in its communication of the author's intended message. Fundamental aspects such as setting, culture and traditions are reflected as central in producing Sesotho target text as the second origin. Investigations are presented within three comprehensive translation parameters with a view to clearly explicating the phenomenon of uniqueness of the second origin. Finally, the article presents a ‘wake-up call’ to all translators to know their target readership with a view to serve them effectively and meaningfully within their linguistic and cultural context.
