Abstract

Metaphor is important to the study of poetry both as a communicative device and as an interpretation technique. In this article I endeavour to explore this fact and to probe the vital role metaphor plays in the interpretation of a poetic text. This will be done by employing the three relational processes of textual interaction, namely intratextual, intertextual and extratextual relations.
