Cole's Dokean Model: Issues and implications

Abstract

This article is a response to Cole's article, ‘The history of African linguistics to 1945’. I use Kuhn's and Stegmueller's arguments that Doke's model reflects the influences of traditional grammar. This article is therefore a contribution to the historiography of African linguistics.
