The story behind the text: O.K. Matsepe's sense of time

Abstract

O.K. Matsepe's distortion of chronological order may be viewed as a key to his perception of time and timelessness. Such inference depends upon a minute reconstruction of the story (chronology) from the text (narrative). To this end Gérard Genette's structural model proved to be a useful tool. Close observation of the relationship between story and text in three of Matsepe's works, reveals his experience of time as an inevitable advance toward infinity and timelessness, propelling man to his eternal destination.
