Abstract

A model for the identification of maize inbred donors which genetically will be best for the improvement of quantitative traits in single cross parents was evaluated using local lines of maize. For this material, the assumption by the model that epistasis is absent and dominance complete, is valid. Results from the application of the model identified five prospective donor lines for favourable alleles for yield improvement in two of the elite single crosses evaluated.
