Abstract

Craig, A. J. F. K. & Manson, A. J. 1981. Sexing Euplectes species by wing-length. Ostrich 52:9-16. Wing-length data for several Euplectes species were collected in the course of a ringing study. Plotting the data on probability paper separates the different components of the population for each species, and provides mean values for their wing-lenghts. Comparison with measurements of birds of known age and sex that this is a reliable method of distinguishing sex and age classes in this genus.
