The derivation of cycle index of Sn ^[3]

Abstract

We evaluate the cycle index polynomial of the reduced triple group S_n ^[3]. We also use similar techniques to derive the cycle index polynomial of the triple group S_n ⁽³⁾ which had earlier been found by Oberschelp (see Palmer [8] who has also given an outline of how the polynomial can be obtained).
