A new species of hemidactylus (squamata: Gekkonidae) from Egypt

Abstract

A new species of Hemidactylus is described from south‐east Egypt. The species most noticeably differs from other Hemidactylus in possessing a distinctive barred pattern, overall coarse scalation, and short digits that hardly protrude beyond the basal dilation. The species is known from one locality, where it was found inhabiting open Acacia woodland. It is apparently largely ground dwelling.
