Abstract

The paper explores sociolinguistic and linguistic aspects of borrowing in Yilumbu. Yilumbu has recorded the arrival of new words mostly from the following languages: Portuguese, French and English. From a phonological point of view, the Yilumbu system displays a set of assimilated and not completely assimilated loanwords.
