Abstract

This study examines temporal relations in Chaka. The novel is selected in an effort to draw some conclusions as to how Mofolo deals with narrative order and duration as viewed by Genette. It is found that though the writer uses anachronies abundantly, these do not violate the chronological order of events. The anachronies merely serve to recall past events and to mention in advance what to be expected in the story. There is no violation of narrative duration.
