Abstract

In this article I deal with compression in a short story, with particular reference to Magoleng's short story ‘Ga le a ka la tswa’ (Doomed to die before the next dawn). In discussing compression with reference to this story, consideration is given to features such as characterization, suspense, time, plot, and style. The significance of compression in a short story is also brought to light.
