Abstract

This paper deals with the value of literature in the development of the black child in Southern Africa. Literature for black children in the indegenous languages of Southern Africa can be called the stepchild of each of these languages. This causes great concern because the value thereof, which is a well known fact, is being totally lost. The foundation that it lays for every child's personality and his approach to life; must not in any way be overlooked. Research on this subject focusing on the black child has received very little attention.
