Function of formula-like poetic devices in Lesoro's modern praise poem Dithoko tsa profesa W.M. Kgware

Abstract

The poetry of the Southern Sotho poet, E.A.S. Lesoro, is characterized by an interaction between tradition and innovation. The impact of the traditional poetic canon on the modern poet, the way of exploiting traditional poetic devices are the most outstanding characteristics concerning his poetry. In this article only one aspect, namely the function of formula-like poetic devices in the poem Dithoko tsa profesa W.M. Kgware is examined.
