Abstract

The signs of Moephuli's fiction as the dominant communicative factors in the text, which give his novel its point and his realistic thriller its captivating grip, are investigated. The signs of the title, the author's preface, chapter headings, nature in a physical and psychological sense, plot, momentary deception, suspense, the eventual restoration of harmony, and theme, are identified and exemplified by means of the facts of the text. Owing inter alia to his generic fidelity and coherence the author has made a lasting contribution to narrative art in Southern Sotho.
