1. Habitat characteristics of wintering Wood Warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix in the Centre Region of Cameroon: conservation implications

Habitat characteristics of wintering Wood Warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix in the Centre Region of Cameroon: conservation implications

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: Ostrich: Journal of African Ornithology
Populations of many Afro-Palearctic birds have declined, with those wintering in sub-Saharan Africa, such as Wood Warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix, particularly affected. In this study we investigated the relationship between habitat characteristics and Wood Warbler presence/absence in the Centre Region of...
2. The Use of Roots to Test N, P and K Deficiencies in Eucalyptus Nutrition

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: South African Forestry Journal
Bioassays have been developed which can provide diagnostics of the nutritional status of trees. They measure the flux of N, P or Rb for K into roots from standard solutions where the rate of influx is inversely related to nutrient...
3. Postflexion and transforming larvae of Gonorynchus gonorynchus (Linnaeus, 1766)

Postflexion and transforming larvae of Gonorynchus gonorynchus (Linnaeus, 1766)

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: South African Journal of Marine Science
Postflexion larvae of Gonorynchus gonorynchus, previously undocumented, are described from the South-East Atlantic. Comparisons with descriptions of larval G. abbreviatus and larvae of another, still unidentified, species of Gonorynchus suggest slight to conspicuous differences in pigmentation between species.
4. Development of a doubled haploid mapping population and linkage map for the bread wheat cross Kariega × Avocet S

Development of a doubled haploid mapping population and linkage map for the bread wheat cross Kariega × Avocet S

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: South African Journal of Plant and Soil
A doubled haploid wheat population of 150 lines was constructed from the F1 of a cross between cultivars Kariega and Avocet S using the wheat-maize technique. Segregation and linkage analysis of 203 DNA markers, two storage protein markers and the...
5. Effects of soil surface management practices on soil and tree parameters in a ‘Cripps Pink’/M7 apple orchard 1. Mineral nutrition

Effects of soil surface management practices on soil and tree parameters in a ‘Cripps Pink’/M7 apple orchard 1. Mineral nutrition

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: South African Journal of Plant and Soil
Effects on soil, leaf and fruit element concentrations of organic (compost, straw mulch and hand weeding) and integrated (inorganic fertilisers and herbicide usage; IP) soil surface management practices in the tree rows, in combination with weed covers, cover crops and...
6. Effects of soil surface management practices on soil and tree parameters in a ‘Cripps Pink’/M7 apple orchard 2. Tree performance and root distribution

Effects of soil surface management practices on soil and tree parameters in a ‘Cripps Pink’/M7 apple orchard 2. Tree performance and root distribution

Item type: Journal Article • Journal: South African Journal of Plant and Soil
Effects of integrated production (IP) and organic-acceptable soil surface management practices were investigated in a ‘Cripps Pink’/M7 apple orchard in the Elgin area, South Africa. Work row treatments included cover crops, weeds and straw mulch. In the IP tree rows,...
