Abstract

Poverty has effects on the wellbeing of children through latent structural effects that influence the ecologies in which children develop and mature. Some of the salient and relatively under researched include homelessness and overcrowding and certain traditional cultural practices that compromise health and wellbeing in children. The intersection of poverty with harmful cultural practices creates a toxic environment for child health and development.
