Abstract

Sediment samples, collected from Jan Smuts Park Dam in Brakpan, Transvaal, during winter months were incubated in culture medium in the laboratory and found to contain viable Microcystis aeruginosa Kütz. emend. Elenkin colonies. The results obtained, indicate that the alga may be able to withstand adverse winter conditions in the bottom sediments of the pan.
