Abstract

As a result of twenty years of intensive research into the factors governing the regeneration of the indigenous forests, a classification is attempted of the types of locality in which the forests are usually found. Emphasis is laid on soil-moisture and soil-aeration. On this basis an attempt is made to decide the general principles on which the management of the forests should be based.
