Maintenance of living krill Euphausia superba in simple aquaria

Krill Euphausia superba caught in the Southern Ocean were maintained alive in two small aquaria mounted in a commercial chest deep-freezer. Skeletonema costatum and Thalassiosira aestavalis cultures were administered as food and the water in the aquaria was changed regularly. Under these conditions, the survival rate of captive animals was comparable to that obtained from more elaborate maintenance procedures and previously reported for a number of euphausiid species.
