Bufo uzunguensis of southern Tanzania (Amphibia: Anura): A history of confusion

Abstract

Type and more recently‐collected material of Bufo uzunguensis Loveridge, is compared with members of the "B. lonnbergi complex” of east African highland dwarf toads. It is concluded that B. uzunguensis is not a member of this complex despite many similarities. Its systematic position is not clear. A new diagnosis of the species is given, together with a key to dwarf toads known to occur in Tanzania and northern Malawi.
