Abstract

Using a speech-processing platform, PRAAT1 (Boersma & Weenink, 1992), this article presents the qualitative and quantitative results of an experimental investigation into Zulu affricates. In so doing, it confirms the classification of /k1', d3 t∫', ts'/ and /φf', cbv, ts', dz, t∫', tɬ', d13/as affricates; establishes the ejective status of voiceless affricates; and determines that durational differences obtain between lexical and derived affricates.
