Solving communication problems in medical institutions

Abstract

This article discusses the findings arising from the research conducted at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. This research freezes in time an analytical snapshot of the language varieties used in this hospital. In its comprehensive, quantitative and qualitative analysis, it is a contribution to the knowledge of an insight into some of the problems and challenges associated with multilingual communication. Valuable suggestions are offered towards enhancing the level of understanding of this sociolinguistic phenomenon.
