Grammaticalisation in South-Eastern Bantu and the linguistic ‘dynamics’ underlying this process

Abstract

In this article an investigation is undertaken of the process of grammaticalisation as it is manifested in numerous word categories in the South-Eastern Bantu languages. In addition, the dynamics (including, inter alia, the linguistic motivation and/or forces) underlying the developmental stages of this process are identified.
