The speech variety of diviners in Venda

Abstract

Each community has its own special variety and such is the case with the Venda diviners. This article investigates the speech variety used by diviners during the interpretation of divining dice in Venda. In this article, this speech variety is labelled Mawa a ṱhangu. The focus will be on the terminology used and the poetic features which characterise this speech variety in the process of divining.
