The designation of official languages in the South African Constitution

Abstract

It is imperative that consistency be maintained in the orthography of a language. The spelling rules should harmonise with language usage in general. In this article it is argued that the use of noun prefixes in the names of African languages occurring in Afrikaans or English is pedantic.
