Abstract

The short story Ucingo which appears in C.S.Z. Ntuli and D.B.Z. Ntuli's Amawisa, has three cardinal characters, two of which are present all the time, while the third is not present although the whole story revolves around him. Many different types of reference and forms of address are used with regard to these characters. Some of these references and forms of address can be interpreted both thematically as well as stylistically. In the former case they are microstructural concrete manifestations, whereas in the latter they are stylistica.
