ATR harmony in Xhosa

Abstract

There seems to be an increasing need for African languages to be exposed to modern linguistic theories. With that in mind, we argue in this article that a descriptive account of Xhosa vowel harmony is inadequate, and that the modular phonological theory provides a better analytical account.
