Abstract

The article investigates the use of indecent, abusive and obscene language as a positive rhetorical device in Xhosa literature. Arguments will focus on the empirical facts on which judgements can be intelligently and objectively based concerning the relationship between the language used by the author and the total portrayal of his/her victim' s behaviour.
