Abstract

The aim of this article is to outline the principles underlying the scientific-statistical analysis and evaluation of multiple-choice test items in North Sotho. It is shown that such a statistical or mathematical evaluation of any given item not only classifies that item on a scale of good, average, or bad, with respect to certain criteria for evaluation, it also gives an exact indication of the applicability of the distractors or a distractor in particular. Furthermore, once certain shortcomings in given multiple-choice test items have been detected, they can be improved and be reincluded in tests.
