Abstract

This study investigated the perception of leadership styles and employee restive behaviour by secondary school teachers in a Nigerian setting. Participants were 309 secondary school teachers (males = 41.42%; females = 58.58%; age range between 36 and 52 years; M = 42.48; SD = 3.93). The participants completed the Leadership Behaviour Descriptive Questionnaire (LBDQ-XII) and the Employee Restiveness Predictive Scale (ERPS). Multiple linear regression was utilised to predict teachers’ restive behaviour from the consideration and initiating structure aspect of leadership style. Results suggested that initiating structure leadership style was a positive predictor of positive employee restive behaviour, while consideration leadership style negatively predicted positive employee restive behaviour. Perceived leadership style has an influence on employee restive behaviour.
