Abstract

Whereas referential meaning is of a basic nature, namely to refer to matters and to describe meanings, the function of affective meaning is to reflect the attitude of a speaker of writer towards a listener or reader or, especially, towards something he is talking about or writing about. Such an attitude is reflected by a large number of features. In this article the role played in respect of affective meaning by word order, morphological additions, additional words and particles, words with a permanent affective element, prosodie features, contrast, the metaphoric usage of words, gestures, etc. is discussed briefly.
