Abstract

The types of inventories used for the management of South African natural forests, primarily focusing on those of the Cape Province, are outlined. The inventory types used are discussed within the framework of three main classes of resource inventories (resource classification. resource quantification, monitoring of resource change) with increasing input requirements, but also allowing an increasingly greater refinement in the management of sustained yield regulation.
