Abstract

The effect of the amount of simulated rain and stubble on the efficiency of herbicides was examined in a glasshouse study. Four different amounts of maize stubble (0–3 500 kg ha-1) and nine different amounts of simulated rain (0–20 mm) were applied. Alachlor, metolachlor and atrazine were used and herbivore efficiency was measured by means of an indicator plant, Avena sativa. Both the amount of stubble present and the amount of water applied had a significant effect on herbicide efficiency.
