Abstract

Several Trifolium varieties grown in an acid Bokkeveld shale soil responded positively to small additions of lime and P. Growth was probably limited by a K deficiency, and it is unlikely that Trifolium species could be successfully grown as cover crops on such deciduous fruit orchard soils without K fertilizer being applied.
