Aims & Scope

Research in Hospitality Management (RHM) is a peer-reviewed open access journal publishing original research that makes a contribution to understandings of hospitality and to the theory and practice of international hospitality management.
 
In response to rapid, disruptive changes confronting the hospitality industry globally (e.g. climate change, artificial intelligence, demographic shifts), the journal is broadening its aims and scope to also include tourism and leisure management as interconnected sectors that are integral to holistic, future-focussed conceptions of hospitality.
 
We aim to publish original research that explores these intersections and informs transitions to sustainable futures. Our focus areas are:
 
1. Rapid change: We publish research emphasizing the swift changes in hospitality, tourism, and leisure sectors and their significant near-future implications.
2. Holistic definition of hospitality: Our scope incorporates tourism and leisure, recognizing that hospitality encompasses business and leisure visitors' activities and residents' leisure pursuits. We focus on how we live, interconnect, host, and manage.
3. Short-term horizons: We concentrate on research about current issues and short-term futures.
4. Industry impact: We prioritize research that is clearly relevant and impactful for the hospitality, tourism, and leisure sectors.
5. International forum: RHM provides a platform for a wide range of practical, theoretical, and applied research within hospitality management.
6. Multidisciplinary approach: We represent diverse viewpoints on key and emerging hospitality management and studies issues.
7. Interconnected fields: We encourage greater understanding and linkage between hospitality, tourism, and leisure management studies.
8. Diverse content: We publish various types of content, including research papers, opinion pieces, viewpoints, expert interviews, case studies, and outstanding student research.
9. Educational perspective: While not our primary focus, we welcome pedagogical research relevant to preparing future professionals for the evolving hospitality, tourism, and leisure landscape.
10. Sustainability: We particularly encourage research that addresses the transition to a sustainable future in these sectors.
 
Submissions undergo double anonymised peer review and the decision of the Editor-in-Chief is final.
 
All articles are made freely and permanently available online through gold open access publication, under a Creative Commons attribution agreement ( CC BY 4.0).
 
No charges are levied for publication as article processing charges (APCs) are sponsored by the Academy of International Hospitality Research, Hotel Management School Leeuwaaden, NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.

Instructions for Authors

Research in Hospitality Management (RHM) is a peer-reviewed Open Access journal publishing research articles that make an original contribution to the understanding of hospitality and to the theory and practice of international hospitality management. Substantive Topic Reviews, Short Communications, Viewpoints, Book Reviews and Discussion Papers will also be considered.
This journal only publishes manuscripts in English.

Editorial policy

Contributions must conform to the principles outlined in Ethical considerations in research publication dealing with authorship, conflicts of interest, originality, plagiarism and duplicate publication, as well as protocols for research that involves human and animal subjects. Submission of a manuscript implies that the material has not previously been published, nor is it being submitted elsewhere for publication. Contributions are accepted with the understanding that the authors have the authority for publication. 

Article publishing charge

The article publishing charge (APC) of EURO 450 is sponsored by the Academy of International Hospitality Research, Hotel Management School, NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.

Manuscript presentation
 
Before submitting a manuscript, read the instructions for authors and consult a recent issue of the journal.
 
Submissions must include three separate documents:
 
1. A covering letter motivating how your submission fits within the scope of the journal;
2. The full article including a title page with:
Title - maximum 20 words
Abstract - maximum 250 words
Keywords - 6 to 8 terms not used in article title
Author details - full names; ORCID iD; institutional affiliation at time of research (and current if since changed); email address
A corresponding author and their email address must be indicated
Acknowledgements, funding, ethics approval, conflict of interest statements must be provided where necessary
3. The full article anonymised for peer review with all author details removed. Use the ‘inspect document’ function to ensure author/identifying details have been removed from the file.

Editorial style

Write in plain English, UK spelling and use the Oxford English Dictionary. Make use of language editing services if necessary to ensure that your work is of an appropriate standard.
Headings should be in sentence case and not numbered. Use no more than three subheading levels: (1) bold; (2) bold italic; and (3) italic.
Use double quotation marks for direct quotes. Direct verbatim speech from interviews should also be italicised.
Endnotes, not footnotes, may be used.
Consult the guidelines for the presentation of mathematical and statistical data*. Use a leading zero and the period (.) as the decimal indicator.
Tables must be numbered consecutively with roman numerals and must include an explanatory title at the head. Each table must be mentioned in consecutive order in the text. Do not repeat information in text and tables.
 
Figures/illustrations

Your illustrations must meet the editorial style and technical requirements of the journal. Redrawing figures may be charged.
Figures must be numbered consecutively with roman numerals and must include an explanatory caption below. Each figure must be mentioned in consecutive order in the text.
Figures should be planned to fit one column (84 mm wide) or two columns (176 mm wide).
All figures must be submitted in electronic format as editable files (e.g., MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Illustrator) OR exported to an editable format (e.g., EPS, PDF). If uneditable artwork is provided, it must be of suitable quality and in the journal style. Bitmap images (such as digital photographs) must be at least 300 dpi–600 dpi depending on the content.
Permission to reproduced illustrations protected by copyright must be supplied. Figures reproduced or adapted from other publications must have permission to do so and/or be attributed.
Illustrations can be reproduced in colour if essential and subject to negotiation with the Editor-in-Chief. Non-essential colour will be charged at €250 per page.

References style

All sources must be fully attributed with the AUTHOR–DATE method in the APA (7th edition) style at https://files.taylorandfrancis.com/tf_apa.pdf . Sources must all be cited in the text and arranged alphabetically in the corresponding list of references.

Proofs and reprints

A pre-publication proof will be emailed to the corresponding author. Only essential corrections are permitted. Prompt return of proofs will minimise the risk of publication being delayed. 
On publication, authors will receive an alert from T&FOnline where the version of record can be downloaded and shared.
 

*Correction statement:
