Southern Forests New Editor-In-Chief: David Everard

As a previous Associate Editor for Southern Forests: a Journal of Forest Science, NISC is pleased to announce that Dr. David Everard has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal.

“I am excited to be taking on the role of Editor-in-Chief of this important Journal and aim to make sure it continues to make a contribution to forest science in the developing world in the south,” he said.

After 23 years of heading up the Environmental Department for Sappi Forests Dr. Everard has had extensive experience in developing and managing environmental management systems, achieving, and maintaining both FSC and PEFC certification and setting environmental and sustainability policy for the company.

Dr. Everard oversaw the establishment of 7 fully proclaimed nature reserves and ensured the management procedures of over 100 000 ha of conservation land was effective. He chaired Forestry South Africa’s Environmental Management Committee for many years, and with his research background contributed to many research projects both in an advisory and participant capacity.

“Forests do and will play an increasingly important role in the social and environmental development of people in the south and with excellent science can and will be significant in the future sustainability of the planet,” he said.

He has contributed widely to the scientific literature through producing formal published scientific reports (mainly for the CSIR), publishing papers in scientific journals and was an Associate Editor of Southern Forests: a Journal of Forest Science for more than 10 years. Dr. Everard added, “my hope is that the journal can really connect people with science and the stewardship of forests.”

Southern Forests: a Journal of Forest Science publishes scientific articles in forest science and management of fast-growing, planted or natural forests in the Southern Hemisphere and the tropics. Papers are also encouraged on related disciplines such as environmental aspects of forestry, social forestry, agroforestry, forest engineering and management as well as the goods and services that are derived from forests as a whole. Articles published by the journal are of value to forest scientists, resource managers and society at large. Read more about the journal here.

The review process is quick and is being done within the reasonable time. After acceptance, NISC is also quick enough to send proofs and is very efficiently publishes the accepted paper online before its print version.

- Author - Southern Forests: A Journal of Forest Science
Since 1995, NISC has systematically built up competence and the necessary capacity in all aspects of publishing high-level research journals, with the professionalism needed to flourish in the increasingly competitive world of international research publications. No other publisher in South Africa commands the necessary technical skills, experience, competence, enthusiasm and resources to the same degree as NISC, in my view.
- Graham Baker, Editor of the South African Journal of Science (1973-2008)
The biggest development in the history of Quaestiones Mathematicae was the association with NISC and to have the journal running in a very stable way without severe financial concerns.
- Barry Green, QM Editor
The proofs look great! Thank you so much. The efficiency of the journal now is really excellent. Easy to work with, and so thorough. I appreciate it.
- Regular SAJP Author on his first interaction with NISC
It has been an enriching experience working with such enthusiastic and professional people at NISC who have become more friends than business partners over the years.
