Abstract

This version of transitivity in verb phrases in Sesotho and Xhosa is based on Chomsky's (1972) X-bar theory. The exposition of verb phrases in Jackendoff (1977) has been used as the basis for this article. It has been found that Jackendoff's PS-rules for verb phrases in English can be applied to African languages.
